Roy O. Greep; Endocrinologist and Scholar at Harvard

Roy Orval Greep, 92, Harvard University endocrinologist and scholar. Born in Longford, Kan., Greep dropped out of high school to work. But he returned to classes with the principal’s encouragement and went on to earn three college degrees from Kansas State College and the University of Wisconsin. During World War II, he worked on research for the Navy with E.R. Squibb & Son in New Jersey. Greep spent most of his career at Harvard, teaching anatomy, dental science and endocrinology and histology, and serving as dean of the Graduate School of Dental Health. Greep was editor in chief of the journal Endocrinology and edited two widely used textbooks on endocrinology and histology. He also served as president of the Endocrine Society, the International Society of Endocrinology and the Laurentian Hormone Conference. Greep was a trustee of the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology and an advisor to the Ford Foundation and the World Health Organization. On Friday in Laguna Hills, Calif.
