Recruits Face Uncertainty

USC’s coaching staff is working through the uncertainty surrounding Coach John Robinson’s future, continuing to recruit while Athletic Director Mike Garrett completes an evaluation that could take a week or more.

“That’s the first question: Are you going to be there? Is Coach Robinson going to be there?” defensive coordinator Keith Burns said.

Garrett said Monday he’s “not going to say much during the process,” and people around Heritage Hall are more uncertain than ever what to expect.

With the signing date not until February, though, there is still a lot of recruiting time left, and Robinson is delaying home visits because of the uncertainty.

With USC home for bowl season, several seniors have been invited to play in the Blue-Gray game on Christmas Day--running back Delon Washington, defensive linemen George Perry and Cedric Jefferson and offensive lineman Chris Brymer.

In addition, punter Jim Wren will play in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Jan. 10 and in the Hula Bowl on Jan. 18, and cornerback Brian Kelly has been invited to both as well. Offensive lineman Phalen Pounds was invited to the Hula Bowl.
