Press-Telegram Names New Publisher
The Long Beach Press-Telegram has named Jack Findley, currently president and general manager of Charleston Newspapers in West Virginia, as its new publisher. The appointment will take effect in January after the newspaper, owned by Knight-Ridder Inc. in Miami, is sold to Garden State Newspapers, an affiliate of MediaNews Group in Denver. Also taking effect in January, Rich Archbold will be promoted from managing editor to executive editor--replacing Executive Editor Jim Crutchfield--and Assistant Managing Editor Carolyn Ruszkiewicz will become managing editor. Ray MacLean will stay on as general manager and Larry Allison will remain editor of the editorial pages. Archbold promised to make the Press-Telegram a more local newspaper without compromising national and international coverage. Terms of the paper’s sale to MediaNews Group were not disclosed.
