4 Department Heads Get Salary Increases
Several top city officials won raises Tuesday, when the Los Angeles City Council agreed to boost their salaries with so-called equity adjustments and merit increases.
Under the four raises approved by the council, Adolfo Nodal, who oversees the city’s Cultural Affairs Department, will make $108,000; Oscar Peters, who oversees the city employees retirement system, will make $110,000; Gary Mattingly, who oversees the Pensions Department, will make $115,000 and Jack Driscoll, who oversees the Airport Department will make $188,000.
The council voted 13-1 for the raises with Councilman Richard Alarcon dissenting and Ruth Galanter absent at the time of the vote.
In another personnel-related action, the council agreed after much debate to create a civilian position at the Los Angeles Police Department at a salary of $123,714. The chief information officer will be responsible mostly for technology and computer-generated reports.
