SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

It is Kristel Jones’ first varsity season, but the sophomore point guard is playing like a veteran for the Littlerock High girls’ basketball team.

Jones scored 18 points and had seven assists Wednesday to lead Littlerock to a 48-41 victory over Antelope Valley in a pool play game at the Valencia tournament.

“[Jones] really stepped up for us tonight,” Littlerock Coach Tom Hagre said. “She’s only a sophomore but she played like a senior.”

Crystal McCutcheon scored 17 points and Marisela Morales added 10 for the Antelopes (2-3), who lost their second consecutive game at the tournament.

“McCutcheon was killing us in the first half,” Hagre said. “But we switched to a zone [defense] in the second half and it seemed to work.”
