UPCOMING PREP EVENTS IN ORANGE COUNTY
The 12th Orange County Boys’ All-Star water polo game starts at 1 p.m., Saturday at Newport Harbor High. The game will feature some of the top seniors in the county from the North, coached by Grafton Weiss of Katella, and South, coached by Santa Margarita’s Rick Rowland. Unlike other all-star games, team selection is based on tryouts. “Instead of picking players, we want to give everybody a chance to make this all-star team,” said John Kulisich, who organized the event. Tryouts took place this week.
WRESTLING
Tournaments will continue to dominate the wrestling schedules for the next two weeks. The most interesting should be the Mann tournament at Loara High, which starts Friday at 3 p.m and concludes on Saturday. On Friday, there will be team competition with scoring based on team dual points. Saturday’s competition, which starts at 10 a.m., features individual wrestling with medals awarded for the first three places in each weight class. The 16-team tournament will include four of the county’s top 10 schools: Santa Ana (5), El Modena (6), San Clemente (7) and Laguna Hills (9). Some of the other county schools competing are Loara, Villa Park, Mission Viejo, Brea Olinda and Esperanza. Other tournaments taking place this weekend are the Vaquero Classic at Irvine High (Sat. 10 a.m.), the Magnolia tournament (Sat. 10 a.m.) and the Santa Margarita tournament (Sat. 10 a.m.).
