Ethics Disappear When Profit Is Paramount
Reality ignored brings ease of mind [“Microsoft Testing Limits on Temp Worker Use,” Dec. 7]. The truth is that our vaunted market economy legitimizes and rewards cruel and selfish practices by entrepreneurs. Bill Gates’ freedom to hire and fire temp workers
indiscriminately to improve profits is wrong.
When profits are put above human welfare, then ethics fly out the window. The fact that we have all been taught that an economic system based on greed is best does not make it best. If we ever wake up, I believe that we will move toward a more righteous system.
