Century Goes Overtime to Win Title
Mike Zepeda’s layup and Hardy Fatu’s free throw with 10 seconds remaining helped Century to a 61-59 overtime victory over Dana Hills in the championship game of the Century Shoot-Out Saturday.
Zepeda led the Centurions (5-1) with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Terrail Zoller scored 16 points and Fatu had 11 for Century.
Tim McKee, who tied the score with 14 seconds remaining in regulation, scored 20 points for Dana Hills (4-2).
In another Century Shoot-Out game:
Newport Harbor 84, University 76--Matt Jameson scored 15 points for Newport Harbor in the third-place game. Eric Palmer scored 25 points and Larry Johnson had 20 for University.
Magnolia 72, Western 60--Zamiro Bennem scored 26 points and had seven assists for Magnolia (7-1) in the fifth-place game. Paul Capico and Eric McGhee each had 14 points for the Sentinels.
In the Foothill Classic:
Tustin 61, Foothill 55--Larry Cambra scored 21 points for Foothill (2-6) in the championship game.
Loara 62, Santiago 41--Martin Banda scored 15 points and Brian Brennan and Herbert Garcia each had 12 points for Loara (7-2) in the third-place game.
Aris Lindo scored 15 points for Santiago.
In the Fullerton Tribe Classic:
Canyon 68, Bolsa Grande 65--Canyon’s Donn Yu stole the ball with three seconds left to secure the championship victory, as Canyon (6-0) dominated the last five minutes of the game. Ali Goodman led Canyon with 18 points and Drew Gaulden had 16 points. Gaulden was named the tournament MVP.
Neil Hammad had 14 points and Scott Reed scored 10 points for Canyon.
Leading Bolsa Grande (6-2) was Duc Nguyen with 27 points, including four three-pointers. Jon James had 17 points and Doug Baughman scored 10.
Rowland Heights Rowland 86, Marina 74--Franklin Fortier scored a game-high 27 points to help visiting Rowland (7-1) win the third-place game. Scot Austin, Jeff Hung and Scott Rivera led Marina (4-4) with 21, 20 and 13 points.
Savanna 59, Brethren Christian 55--Justin Miller’s three-pointer at the buzzer forced overtime, but Brethren Christian (1-7) only scored one point in the extra period. William King led Savanna (2-7) with 22 points and Mark Watanabe followed with 10. Miller and Kevin Thomas scored 15 points each, and Chris Austad made four three-pointers.
In the La Quinta Tournament:
Katella 67, Calvary Chapel 55--Robert Ambercrombie, the tournament MVP, scored nine of his 19 points in the second quarter to help Katella (8-0) outscore Calvary Chapel, 23-14, and capture the championship.
Ryan Luther and Brandon Jordan each had 13 points for the Knights.
Joe Ortiz scored 22 points for the Eagles.
Laguna Beach 73, La Quinta 44--Chris Sirianni led Laguna Beach (6-2) with 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. B.J. Jameson had 17 points, and Sean Donnelly and Nick Reynolds each had 12 points for the Artists. La Quinta was led by Nam Truong with 20 points and Chris Smith with 12 points.
In the Ocean View Tournament of Champions:
Ocean View 65, Long Beach Jordan 50--Kevin Hanson scored 15 points and David Hatch added 13 for Ocean View (3-1) in the third-place game. Darren Peterson scored 21 points for Long Beach Jordan.
