Cause of House Fire Being Investigated
VENTURA — Investigators were looking into the cause of a fire Wednesday night that damaged a bedroom in a house above Ventura High School.
Jon Ellis, 30, said he and his wife were at home when they heard a commotion down the street about 8 p.m.
At a neighbor’s house, in the 2300 block of Hyland Avenue, “we saw the flames coming out of the upper window, the bedroom,” he said. “There was a lot of smoke.”
Ellis called authorities and then ran to the house, where he grabbed a garden hose in an effort to stop the flames. He then alerted a resident of the house, who had not noticed the fire.
Firefighters arrived and quickly put the fire out. No one was injured.
