L.A. Vacation
I have just returned from a two-week vacation in Los Angeles, without a car, and I found public transportation such a pleasant experience I wanted to write you about it.
From my motel in Westwood, I was able to use the Wilshire Boule- vard bus to go to the beach at Santa Monica, to the Los Angeles County Art Museum and even to downtown. I was able to use the express commute bus to visit friends in Sherman Oaks, and even to get to the railroad to go to Long Beach to visit family. I found the buses clean, uncrowded, on time, and the drivers were invariably courteous. Although the wait was somewhat longer than I have experienced for New York City buses, due to the good weather, I didn’t mind the wait.
After having been warned not to attempt L.A. without a car, I was delighted that public transportation served me so well.
