Girl Safe as Fire Damages Home’s Garage
A 15-year-old girl, out of school for the Christmas break, was home alone Monday morning when a fire broke out in the garage, authorities said.
Blair Craddock said she heard a crackling sound coming from the garage of her home on Sidlee Street in Thousand Oaks. Then she saw flames.
She tried to call 911, but the phone lines had been burned through. So she ran out into the street and yelled for help from neighbors, who contacted the Ventura County Fire Department.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze shortly after arriving at the scene around 11 a.m. There was $20,000 in damage, but no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
