Free Bus, Rail Rides Offered Christmas Eve
A Free Fare program will be in effect for MTA bus and rail lines operating in Los Angeles County on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the transit agency announced Monday.
The free fares will be offered from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Christmas Eve and Dec. 31.
“This program is designed to encourage individuals celebrating the holiday season to use MTA bus and rail service instead of using their personal vehicles,” said Ellen Levine, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s executive officer for Transit Operations.
Patrons boarding an MTA bus or the Metro Red, Blue or Green lines during the designated hours will receive a free ride to their destination, she said.
In addition, Metro Blue Line rail service hours will be extended on New Year’s Eve to accommodate people planning to attend street festival activities planned in the downtown Long Beach area.
“This is our way of saying happy holidays to the more than 1.1 million boarding passengers who utilize the Metro system each day,” Levine said.
