Council OKs Purchase of Storm Drain Piping
Anxious to prevent further flooding from El Nino-related storms, the City Council on Monday agreed to buy and install new storm drain piping at 19th Street and Park Avenue.
The concrete piping will run about half a mile and cost $361,215. About 88% of the cost, or up to $318,000, will be reimbursed to the city from a federal grant designed for storm preparedness.
Expenditures will cover the below-ground piping system, manholes and street reconstruction.
The new system will help with chronic storm drain problems in the west side and other areas, said Bill Morris, director of public services.
City Council members approved the program in a specially scheduled meeting.
