Turnley Walker; Book Reviewer for Children

Turnley Walker, 84, author and award-winning book reviewer for children. He was a polio sufferer whose books “Rise Up and Walk” and “Roosevelt and the Warm Springs Story” dramatized how one copes with a crippling disease. Later, he won the Peabody Award for his PBS book review presentations “Turnley Walker on Books.” His “Books Alive” reading programs, a series of book reviews on audio cassettes, were used by the Los Angeles Unified School District and other districts throughout the country.
