Line Growing Long to Replace Long
The fax machine at UCLA is working overtime, receiving resumes from people wanting to replace Rocky Long as the Bruins’ defensive coordinator.
Long has been named the coach at New Mexico, and the fax is also clogged with resumes from people seeking to join his staff there.
“I’ve been getting calls for two weeks,” said UCLA Coach Bob Toledo, or since Long’s name was first connected with the opening at New Mexico.
Secondary coach Marc Dove said he would like to become the defensive coordinator, as he has been at North Carolina, Minnesota and Texas Christian. Long was on Dove’s defensive staff at TCU.

Long said he had gotten about 90 calls since becoming New Mexico’s coach Saturday, and that many of them were from job seekers.
“My primary job is still here,” Long said of helping the Bruins prepare for their Cotton Bowl game against Texas A&M.;
Long’s goal is to have at least half his staff in place by Jan. 1, and he will leave Dallas for Albuquerque immediately after the Bruins play Texas A&M.;
Bruin graduate assistant Grady Stretz is expected to join Long as the Lobos’ defensive line coach.
