Top Irish Official Condemns Killings
Irish Foreign Minister David Andrews condemned as “obscenities” the shooting of a guerrilla leader and the reprisal killing of a former prisoner in Northern Ireland. “The obscenities of recent days may well be designed to undermine the peace process. They must not be allowed to do so,” Andrews said. Pro-British guerrillas of the outlawed Loyalist Volunteer Force said they killed a former Irish republican prisoner in reprisal for the slaying hours earlier of their leader, Billy Wright, by Irish republican prisoners inside the province’s top-security jail.
