Ceremony to Mark 2 Officers’ Promotions

Two police officers will be promoted Wednesday at a special ceremony in City Hall.

Sgt. Dann Bean, who was hired in 1977, is slated to become a lieutenant, and Senior Officer Robert Gallaugher, hired in 1982, moves up to sergeant.

In compliance with tradition, Police Chief Elvin G. Miali or family members of the officers will pin the higher-ranked badges on them at the event.

The positions officially open when Lt. Dale Herzog retires today after 30 years of service.

“There are only 66 sworn officers, and this does not create an abundance of promotions,” City Councilman John J. Collins said. “Our concern is that we can lose people to larger departments. It makes us feel good when we have awarded promotional opportunities to good candidates.”

Medals of valor also will be awarded to officers Antonius Spangler and Ken Hounsley, who helped save a woman and boy from a burning home in 1996.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 10200 Slater Ave.
