From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A storm churning up the East Coast dumped up to 2 feet of snow in central New York, stranding Fiesta Bowl-bound football fans in Syracuse and sending a Delta jet skidding off a runway in Newburgh. Roads were closed to all but emergency traffic in Syracuse and Ithaca, frustrating hundreds of Syracuse University football fans stuck at the city’s snowbound airport while waiting for flights to Phoenix. None of the 138 people aboard Flight 716 from Atlanta were hurt when the Delta jet skidded off the Newburgh runway.
