Sonoma County Beats Vigilantes in Wild One

Vigilante pitcher Paul Anderson had some problems early, but it was his last toss that got him into trouble.

Mission Viejo could not overcome a tough first inning and a wild sixth as host Sonoma County won, 10-5, in a Western Baseball League game Wednesday afternoon at Rohnert Park.

Anderson (1-5) was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning after giving up a double down the left-field line to Jon Fuller. The Vigilante pitcher thought the ball was foul and made his point by throwing his glove at umpire Chris Fabella.

Anderson, who gave up five hits and eight earned runs in 5 1/3 innings, did not leave it alone.

Fabella also ejected Manager Brad Lesley, who came out to continue the argument. Once that concluded, the Crushers’ Carter Masterson put the game out of reach with a two-run double to make it 7-4.

Masterson, who finished with five runs batted in, keyed a five-run first inning with a three-run homer, his fourth of the season.

The Crushers’ Tony Coscia (2-2) had a six-run lead and a three-hit shutout through five innings. But consecutive hits by Reuben Smiley, Corey Parker, Sean Drinkwater and Chris Ashbach cut the deficit to two in the top of the sixth.

Mission Viejo’s Sam Taylor homered in the seventh, his ninth of the season.

The teams play tonight, with Mike Smith starting for Mission Viejo (15-21) and Todd Genke on the mound for Sonoma County (24-12).
