LILITH REDUX

Fans of the Lilith Fair, Sarah McLachlan’s women-oriented tour that was the one big success among last summer’s traveling pop festivals, will get a chance to relive that experience--and one to preview next year’s edition.

A two-hour film made during Lilith shows in Toronto will be televised as a pay-per-view special on Nov. 28, while a behind-the-scenes documentary of the tour will air about two weeks earlier on VH1. Along with McLachlan’s headlining spot, the pay-per-view features performances by Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Shawn Colvin, the Indigo Girls and Meredith Brooks.

Marty Diamond, McLachlan’s agent and a co-organizer of Lilith, admits that it’s a bit of a gamble to put the film out on pay-per-view rather than on a cable channel such as MTV or HBO.

“We had discussions with HBO, but it didn’t come to fruition,” he says. “They were so wrapped up with the Garth Brooks show in Central Park at that time. But pay-per-view seemed like a natural progression. The jury is still out, but we feel very strongly that the quality of what it is makes it worthwhile.”

On Dec. 16, McLachlan will host a “Winter Lilith” show at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Fla., a state that the ’96 tour bypassed. The lineup of that show, which will be announced soon, will in part involve artists expected to sign up for next summer’s trek.
