Noble’s Goal Is Game Winner
Junior midfielder Charlie Noble scored on an assist from Edwin Astudillo to give the Cal Lutheran men’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Occidental in the first round of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Saturday at Cal Lutheran.
Noble took a high-arcing pass from Astudillo and converted an eight-yard shot in the 29th minute for his second goal of the season.
The Kingsmen (14-2-1, 8-0 in the SCIAC), who won their eighth game in a row, outshot Occidental (4-10-1, 3-4-1), 13-0.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 3, Pomona-Pitzer 0--Holly Roepke and Kim Holeman each converted penalty kicks in the first five minutes for the Regals (15-4, 12-0) in a SCIAC regular-season finale at Cal Lutheran.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Cal State Sacramento d. Cal State Northridge, 15-4, 15-7, 15-13--Kristin Sigel had 11 kills for the Matadors (12-11, 4-8) in a Big Sky Conference loss to the host Hornets (16-6, 9-3).
The Master’s d. Occidental, 15-8, 15-8, 15-8--Kim Gibson had 10 kills, seven blocks and 13 digs and Amber Cross had seven blocks for the Mustangs (15-17) in a nonconference match at The Master’s.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Miramonte 5, Harvard-Westlake 4--Phil Spataru scored three goals but the Wolverines (18-4) fell in the third-place game of the California Invitational at Bellarmine Prep in San Jose.
Earlier, Harvard-Westlake lost to Long Beach Wilson (22-0), 6-2, in a semifinal.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Citrus 7, Valley 2--Stephanie Hammer and Windy Henry scored for the Monarchs (8-12-1, 3-2), who lost in the championship game of the Western State Conference tournament at Cuesta College.
