Victory Puts Cal in Vedder Standing

Justin Vedder had four touchdown passes Saturday as California ended a losing streak at five games with a 33-14 victory over Oregon State in a matchup of the teams that shared last place in the Pacific 10 Conference.

Cal, 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Pac-10, scored on its opening series and built a 33-7 lead in the first half.

Dameane Douglas caught scoring passes of 20 and 11 yards from Vedder in the half. Vedder finished 21-of-29 passing for 215 yards with one interception.

Oregon State (3-5, 0-5) scored with 42 seconds left in the first half when Tyler Tomich connected with James Battle for a 29-yard pass play. Tim Alexander threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Jason Dandridge with five seconds left in the game.

Oregon State had 197 yards against Cal’s often-criticized defense, ranked ninth in the Pac-10.
