United in Anger
Re: “Agents Find Not-So-Friendly Skies” (Travel Insider, Oct. 5): The recent action by United Airlines to lower the commission to travel agents was a real threat to travel agencies. That this action was soon followed by Delta, American and USAirways was no surprise but still a big disappointment to me as a travel agency owner.
What happened to the outrage by the public? Not even a whimper. These companies are bullies because they know they can get away with it. If any other industry were subjected to this blatant bullying, the politicians wouldn’t let it happen; after all, it’s the public that’s going to be the loser in the end.
