Car Theft, DUI Suspect Dies in Jail
A man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and driving a stolen car died at the Seal Beach city jail early Monday, after officers found him unconscious and paramedics were unable to revive him, officials said.
About 2:30 a.m., police stopped James Paul Majcherek, 25, of Laguna Niguel and took him into custody, officials said. He was in a stolen car and appeared to be under the influence of a drug, police said.
Seal Beach police said jail personnel checked on Majcherek repeatedly Monday morning “and found nothing amiss.” But about 9 a.m., officers saw that he was unconscious and called paramedics, a police report said.
They were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at 9:13 a.m., police said.
As it does with all in-custody deaths, the Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating.
