Groundbreaking Near for Community Center
The city expects to break ground later this month on the first phase of a 20,000-square-foot community center.
City Council members are expected tonight to award a $2.5-million contract to Taylor Ball construction company of La Mesa to build the first phase of the center at Camino Del Avion and Alipaz Street, next to Marco F. Forster Middle School.
“This is a dream come true for San Juan Capistrano,” Councilwoman Collene Campbell said.
The first phase of the $3.3-million project, approved by voters in 1990 as part of a $20-million bond initiative, includes a senior citizens center and a multipurpose room. Construction will begin Nov. 20, with completion expected by August.
The second phase of the project includes a youth center and a gymnasium. Most of the center’s funding will come from the sale of surplus property valued at $2.5 million.
The 7 p.m. meeting will be at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto. Information: (714) 493-1171.
