Local Radio Show Will Honor Veterans
Cal Lutheran University’s public radio station KCLU-FM (88.3) will broadcast the “Voices of the West: Veterans Day” program next week.
The hourlong special tells the story of one man’s personal quest to find the average person’s grasp of the veteran’s experience, said Mary Olson, the station’s general manager.
“I think Veterans Day is important,” she said. “I want people to think about the men and women who gave their lives for this country. I don’t want people to think about the sale at the mall. That’s not what this day is about.”
The National Public Radio program also will feature profiles of Dorcas Cavett, the first enlisted woman in the U.S. Marines; Alvin Josephy, a renowned historian; and Dorothy Solomon, a Vietnam veteran’s wife who tells about learning that her husband’s name is to be carved on the Vietnam Wall Memorial.
The program will air from 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 11.
