An all-girls Catholic high school netted $70,000 at an annual auction over the weekend, and the proceeds will go to upgrade the private school’s computer and science labs, install air conditioning and provide scholarships.

“It went really well,” said Christine Hudson, who helped organize Saturday night’s auction for La Reina High. The auction had a Shangri-La theme and was held in the transformed gymnasium at the campus on Janss Road. About 575 people attended.

Among the items auctioned off were a laptop computer, a trip to China and golfing at Sherwood Country Club. A pair of boxing gloves once worn by Muhammad Ali were sold for about $600, Hudson said.

The auction committee raised $100,000 and spent about $30,000 of that on food and decorations, Hudson said. Last year, the group raised $62,000 for the school, which has about 500 students in grades seven through 12.
