Open Hollypark and Find a Pearl
Hollywood Park’s 37-day fall meet begins today with the featured $70,000 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes, which seems like small change compared to Saturday’s $11-million Breeders’ Cup at the Inglewood track.
After the Breeders’ Cup, Hollywood Park will be throwing around some large purses of its own, headed by the $700,000 Matriarch and the $500,000 Hollywood Derby on Nov. 30, and the $500,000 Hollywood Turf Cup on Dec. 14.
Ryafan, winner of the Yellow Ribbon last Sunday at Santa Anita, will be trying to clinch the Eclipse Award for best female on grass when she runs in the Matriarch.
