So Far, Hebert Is Being Shut Out by Team USA

Nobody has said a word to goaltender Guy Hebert about playing for Team USA in the Nagano Olympics, but he hasn’t given up hope of joining the 17 players selected Monday.

On the other hand, Hebert’s wife is expecting the couple’s first child Jan. 19--less than three weeks before the Olympic break.

“I have mixed emotions, but if you have the opportunity to go and be a part of the experience, you’d be crazy not to go,” said Hebert, a backup to Mike Richter on the U.S. World Cup championship team last year.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Olympics. I’ll have to weigh my options, though. If you’re just going to sit around in the stands for two weeks, it might be better not to go.”

Teemu Selanne pulled a T-shirt out of his locker stall and called out playfully to teammates, “Hey, where did this thing come from?” It read: “Show Paul The Money.”

The shirt apparently was sent to Selanne by a supporter of unsigned free agent Paul Kariya.

Site--The Pond.

Radio--KRLA (1110).

Record vs. Lightning (1996-97)--1-1.

Update--Coach Pierre Page hopes a meeting Tuesday with Selanne and other team leaders will spark the Ducks to play as well at home as they did during a 2-1-2 trip. They are off to the best start in the franchise’s five-season history, but are 1-3-2 at the Pond. Selanne has scored a goal in a team-record seven consecutive games. Tampa Bay is 0-8-1 and has scored only one third-period goal in nine games.
