Chapman Left Out in Cold in Colorado

On Sunday, Chapman men’s soccer Coach Eddie Carrillo got a bad feeling about Wednesday’s first-round NCAA playoff game against Colorado College in Colorado Springs when he flipped on the TV to watch some pro football.

“I saw the Denver Broncos’ game and saw it was snowing,” Carrillo said. “That can’t be a good thing.”

On a snow covered field, Chapman lost in overtime, 3-2. Leading scorer Mike Sterner also had a chance to give the Panthers the victory in regulation, but a one-on-one opportunity in the final minute resulted in a shot that missed wide by a foot.

Chapman ended 13-6-1 and Colorado College (13-6) advanced to the West Regional final.

After Wednesday’s loss, the Panthers couldn’t even get home.

“We got fogged in at the airport,” Chapman Sports Information Director Jim Moore said. “And it happened after we already checked out of our hotel.”
