Smith Helps Laguna Beach Come Back to Beat Redlands
Megan Smith had 17 kills and 13 digs as third-seeded Laguna Beach defeated Redlands, 13-15, 15-13, 15-6, 15-5, in a Southern Section Division I-AA girls’ volleyball playoff match Saturday at Laguna Beach.
Kristin Gundersen had 12 kills for the Artists (16-4), who advanced to a semifinal match against second-seeded Newport Harbor on Tuesday.
In another Division I-AA match:
Newport Harbor 3, Chino Hills Ayala 0--Monica Bridle and April Ross each had seven kills in the Sailors’ 15-1, 15-2, 15-2 victory. Newport Harbor improved to 18-2. Ayala finished 17-2.
In Division II-AA:
Santa Margarita 3, Cypress 0--Michelle Chambers had 20 kills to lead the Eagles to a 15-10, 16-14, 15-6 win over visiting Cypress (14-3). The Eagles will face West Torrance in the semifinals.
In Division II-A:
Valencia 3, West Covina Sierra Vista 0--Michelle LeBlanc and Katie Eatherton each had 10 kills for Valencia, 15-5, 15-3, 15-8.
Valencia (15-3) plays Lakewood St. Joseph in the semifinals.
In Division III-AA:
Corona del Mar 3, Lakewood Mayfair 0--Sarah Petry had 22 kills and Jordana Havriluk had 17 for the Sea Kings (11-7). Brooke Reese had nine kills and Corie Myer had 38 assists and two blocks. Corona del Mar will face Calabasas in the semifinals.
El Modena 3, Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon 0--Kim Frederick had 11 kills for El Modena, which won, 15-2, 15-10, 15-6. The Vanguards (17-1) play La Habra in the semifinals.
La Habra 3, Fullerton 0--Kirsten Berg had 11 kills to lead La Habra to a 15-8, 15-11, 15-11 victory.
In Division III-A:
Ocean View 3, Gladstone 0--Amy Knebel and Jessica Bradosky each had six kills for Ocean View (15-1), which won, 15-1, 15-5, 15-4. Knebel added seven digs and five aces and Tracy Lindquist had 28 assists and eight digs.
In Division IV-AA:
Calvary Chapel 3, Los Angeles Marymount 0--T.J. Gause led Calvary Chapel (12-4) with 15 kills and Jessie Wright had 35 assists. Calvary Chapel will face Los Angeles Marlborough in the semifinals.
In Division V-AA:
St. Margaret’s 3, Long Beach St. Anthony 0--Allison Bendush and Hillary Schutt each had 10 kills for St. Margaret’s, which won, 15-9, 15-11, 15-12.
St. Margaret’s will play Pasadena Poly in the semifinals.
