Update

A look at the Southern Section divisions in which Orange County’s large-school football teams compete (rankings are from Southern Section divisional polls):

DIVISION I

With five powerhouse teams in the division, it appears likely that Rialto Eisenhower, 9-1 but ranked fifth, may have to play three of the other four to win the division. There will be few easy games in the playoffs; it will be hard enough to choose a wild-card team from three strong candidates. Edison’s victories over Paramount and Marina may give the Chargers the edge over Encino Crespi and San Clemente.

CITRUS BELT

DIVISION V

One of two beleaguered programs will get a boost today when the division’s wild-card team is selected. Will it be Magnolia, which hasn’t gone to the playoffs since 1985 and stumbled after a 6-0-1 start? Or will it be Katella, which posted its first winning record since 1988, the last time the Knights qualified for the postseason?

CENTURY

DIVISION VIII

Bellflower upset Lakewood Mayfair, 26-20, Friday night, to force a three-way tie for second place in the Suburban League, but lost a coin flip to determine which teams would receive an automatic berth in the playoffs. But Bellflower will likely be the wild-card choice; none of the three Orange County leagues have a candidate.

FREEWAY
