Diagnostic Systems Buys Assets of SED Gerant
Dental/Medical Diagnostic Systems in Westlake Village has purchased the assets of SED Gerant, a French company.
SED develops and manufactures medical and dental devices. Dental/Medical Diagnostic has acquired all of SED’s technology, intellectual property and patents for the invention of a curing and whitening device. Also included in the asset purchase are additional patents, copyrights and other intellectual property.
Francois Duret, president of SED, holds numerous patents relative to dental devices. Duret will join the management team of Dental/Medical Diagnostic as director of research and development and general manager of the French operation.
The newly acquired SED device, which whitens teeth and bonds--or cures--filling material to a tooth with a cavity, is expected to be introduced into markets outside the United States and Canada in the first quarter of 1998. Dental/Medical Diagnostic expects to sell the curing and whitening system for less than $3,000.
The company estimates, based on the number of dental practices in its international market, that the global market for composite curing and teeth whitening will exceed $1 billion.
