Instructor Named Lifeguard of Year
Marine Training Coordinator Reenie Boyer was recently honored as the city’s 1997 Lifeguard of the Year at the Fire and Marine Department’s annual Commodores Ball.
Boyer was hired by Newport Beach in 1983 as a part-time lieutenant responsible for organizing and directing a Junior Lifeguard program with about 50 students. She was hired as a full-time instructor in 1991 after the program had grown to about 600 students.
