Liquor Permit Sought for Cannery Village

A large crowd of Cannery Village residents is expected to appear Thursday before the Planning Commission when it debates whether to issue a live-entertainment permit at the site of the former Cafe Lido.

A notice sent out to residents last week said the applicant, Kathy Williams, plans to convert the commercial space at 501 30th St. into a banquet and convention facility.

Williams has asked the planning commission to grant her alcohol and entertainment permits.

Residents in Cannery Village have complained about the bars and restaurants that serve alcohol in their neighborhood.

They say the high concentration of such businesses attracts unruly patrons who vandalize their homes and disturb the peace late at night.

The Planning Commission meets Thursday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 3300 W. Newport Blvd. Information: (714) 644-3309.
