Residents Concerned About Fate of Campus

Frustrated and worried about the future of the former Oxford Junior High School campus, about 80 residents voiced their concerns last week to an Anaheim Union High School District committee.

At issue is what will happen to the Orange Avenue campus, which has been leased the last seven years to Greater Long Beach Christian School Inc., which runs Brethren Christian Junior-Senior High School. The district voted last year to resume using the school--as a possible magnet or specialty math/science campus--and notified Brethren officials that the lease would not be extended for the 1998-99 school year.

The fate of the campus was the subject of many, including how changes would affect district finances and property tax values. Some urged the district to extend Brethren’s lease.

The committee will consider the questions as it prepares recommendations for district trustees, who are expected to decide the issue in January.
