Historic Home Saved From Demolition
Billing the event as “This Old House Meets Home Improvement,” young carpenters went to work Monday restoring a historic home that was moved from Torrance to the West Adams district, part of the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles’ neighborhood improvement plan.
The house, the Weston Ranch Cottage, which was the family manor of a sprawling South Bay cattle ranch at the turn of the century, was moved recently to 1688 W. 23rd St. near Normandie Avenue.
“This home was saved from the wrecking ball,” said the CRA’s Gayle Anderson.
The carpenters are from the Carpenters Educational and Training Institute, a nonprofit construction program providing job training for unemployed people, Anderson said.
