Identity of Comatose Accident Victim Discovered
More than three years after a hit-and-run traffic accident in Baldwin Park, officials have finally learned the identity of a comatose bicyclist.
Sheriff’s investigators said a man found an old newspaper story about deputies’ efforts to identify the cyclist. Knowing that Armando Perez had been missing since the time of the accident, the man contacted Perez’s family and told them about the article.
On Sunday, Maria Gutierrez of Azusa identified her brother, Deputy Debra Glafkidessaid. Perez has been at the High Desert Hospital in Lancaster since the crash in April 1994, Glafkides said.
Perez was cycling in Baldwin Park when he was struck by a car that left the scene, Glafkides said. Perez suffered severe head injuries and never regained consciousness, she said.
