Passenger Killed in Small Plane Crash Is Identified as Costa Mesa Woman
The passenger of a single-engine plane that crashed this weekend after takeoff from Big Bear City Airport was identified as Stephanie Lynn Kramer of Costa Mesa, officials said Monday.
Kramer, 28, and pilot John Marshall, 47, of Newport Beach died in the crash early Saturday.
San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department officials said the 1956 Mooney M-20 plane took off about 6:50 a.m. and headed west but turned south for unknown reasons. The aircraft hit the treetops south of Big Bear Boulevard, tearing off part of the right wing. It crashed, upside-down, on a rocky hillside about one-third of a mile from the airport, officials said.
Kramer and Marshall were dead when paramedics and firefighters arrived.
It is unclear what caused the crash, and investigators said they have not found evidence that Marshall radioed any air-traffic facility to report trouble.
