Smith helped Esperanza, ranked second in Division I, win its heat at the Southern Section preliminaries at Mt. San Antonio College, by winning the race in 18 minutes 21 seconds. Smith, who also won her second consecutive Sunset League title this season, and the Aztecs, the top-ranked team in the county, will run in the section finals Saturday.
