Trash District Offers Pickups for Big Items
Trash haulers in some areas will now collect large items once a year on a call-in basis.
Costa Mesa Sanitary District customers who receive curbside pickup are eligible for the program. The service is offered in addition to an annual summer program in which haulers take big items, which do not fit in bins, on specified dates.
Items can include couches, stoves, water heaters, refrigerators and other furniture and appliances.
If residents need more items to be picked up, they must call a private hauler, said Lois Thompson, a spokeswoman for the district.
Appointments must be made for the collections.
In other action, the sanitary district, the city and the Orange County Fairgrounds recently agreed to provide a Christmas tree recycling program on a fairground parcel at Fairview Road and Arlington Drive. Recycling takes place Dec. 29 to Jan. 11.
