Peraza Scores 4 Touchdowns for Dana Hills
DANA POINT — Senior running back Julio Peraza rushed for 188 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Dana Hills to a 43-8 victory over Redlands East Valley Friday at Dana Hills High.
Tommy Gallups got things going for the Dolphins (3-1), taking the opening kickoff 74 yards for a touchdown. After stopping East Valley on the next possession, Peraza ran 38 yards on Dana Hills’ first play from scrimmage to make it 14-0 with 8:30 left in the first quarter.
East Valley, a program in its first year of varsity football, had trouble moving the ball as the Dolphin defense held the Wildcats to only two first downs in the first half.
Peraza added scoring runs of 25, two and 16 yards in the second quarter to give Dana Hills a 35-0 halftime lead.
Dana Hills ran into penalty problems in the second quarter, drawing seven penalty flags, two of which nullified scoring plays.
Gene Shibata surprised East Valley by catching a 42-yard scoring pass from quarterback Jeremy Walker midway through the third quarter. Walker attempted only five passes in the game, completing three.
East Valley (0-4) prevented a shutout early in the fourth quarter when David Lopez scored on a 15-yard run. Lopez gained 96 yards for the Wildcats in 13 carries.
East Valley quarterback Mike Baker failed to complete a pass.
