‘Bookin’ ’ a Success, Chapter and Verse

Thanks to all the sponsors for the recently completed program “Bookin’ at The Oaks,” a summer-long promotion for local libraries and the fun of reading at The Oaks. This program included many activities that spotlighted books, as well as a book donation drive.

“Bookin’ at The Oaks’ ” goal of 10,000 donated books was achieved, thanks to the generosity of the people who participated in the book drive. Even though we’ve recently increased our hours of service in some libraries due to restructuring of our operations, libraries are nothing but buildings unless there are materials inside that people need.

My thanks go to Diane Boyd of The Oaks and The Oaks staff; the two co-sponsors, which were the Los Angeles Times Ventura County Edition and Radio 92.7; and the participating mall merchants.

Thank you too to Ella the Storyteller, who shared her talents with children at The Oaks on behalf of Ventura County Libraries. And finally, thanks to all of you who donated books to the book drive so that more materials are available in your local libraries.
