Woman Gets Jail for Theft of Funds
Linda Lee Tripoli, former president of La Habra’s Pop Warner football league, has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $17,000 in league funds, authorities announced Tuesday.
An Orange County Superior Court judge, following her plea last week, sentenced the 49-year-old woman to 180 days in jail. She also was ordered to pay $17,619 in restitution to the league, which nearly shut down after the loss.
Det. Ron Braasch, who investigated the case, said the league received the restitution check Tuesday.
“It was a long investigation,” Braasch said. Tripoli’s actions “affected a lot of the community’s kids,” he said.
Police said Tripoli forged signatures of league board members in order to cash checks for personal use during her tenure as president in 1995.
Braasch said the Police Department was pleased with the outcome of the case and thanked the league for cooperating with detectives.
