The Child Abuse Services Team on Thursday recognized the contributions of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department by presenting Sheriff Brad Gates with a book of poems about child abuse.
“I can’t even begin to list all the things the Sheriff’s Department does for us,” said Jan Grotewold, coordinator of volunteer services. “The sheriffs are a very important part of what we do and this is a way to thank them for their involvement.”
The Child Abuse Services Team is a county-funded agency that investigates child abuse, provides therapy and medical services to victims and assists law enforcement officials by conducting interviews in a child-friendly atmosphere.
Among other efforts, deputies have donated time and materials to the program since its inception in 1989, including stuffed animals for abused children and arts and crafts supplies, Grotewold said.
The book of poetry presented to Gates, “Truth of the Day,” was written by Marianne Gillispie, who drew from her experiences as a longtime volunteer with the agency.
