Bills Waive Unprepared Hobert

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills waived backup quarterback Billy Joe Hobert on Wednesday, two days after he admitted he was unprepared for an injury to starter Todd Collins.
Hobert told the Associated Press earlier this week he glanced over the passing plays and was not ready last week when Collins sustained a strained shoulder in a 33-6 loss to the New England Patriots.
“Maybe I just need to find my niche in professional football and go with it,” said Hobert, acquired for a third-round draft pick from the Oakland Raiders in the off-season, “and try to make the best of a very bad situation.”
Buffalo also remained unsure whether Collins would be healthy before Monday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. If Collins is not ready, Alex Van Pelt would start, and the Bills would quickly need to find a backup.
