PREP FOOTBALL GAMES AT A GLANCE
Capistrano Valley (2-1-2, 0-0) vs. No. 1 Mater Dei (5-0, 0-0)
7 TONIGHT
SANTA ANA STADIUM
After getting shellacked last Friday by Bakersfield, 36-0, the last thing the Cougars need is to face the Monarchs on a game televised by Fox Sports West 2. But Capistrano Valley has a history of playing Mater Dei tough, as the Cougars did in last year’s 21-15 loss. Mater Dei, which is ranked No. 1 in the county and No. 2 in the nation by USA Today, has shut out four of its five opponents, and is doubly tough on offense now that John Leonard’s passing is complementing Mike McNair’s running. Capistrano Valley wide receiver Craig Tortorici is averaging 26.3 yards per catch.
