Monument Honors Women in Military
Thousands of female veterans--including a 101-year-old Californian who served in World War I--are expected to attend four days of events celebrating the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, ready for dedication Saturday. The $21.5-million memorial at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery will honor the military service of nearly 2 million women during conflict and peace, dating back to the Revolutionary War. Another goal, planners say, is to educate the public about the long and varied history of women in the U.S. armed forces. A unique feature of the memorial will be a computerized database with information by and about military women from the past, present and futures.
