Joseph Choate Sr.; Longtime Lawyer Wrote About Gen. MacArthur
Joseph Choate Sr., 97, believed to be the second oldest attorney in California. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he studied international law at Harvard and Oxford universities. Choate was a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles from 1927 to 1934 before opening a general practice law firm. Choate was a friend of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and was head of the California committee to nominate the World War II hero for president in 1948. He later wrote “Douglas MacArthur, As I Knew Him.” In Los Angeles on Tuesday.
