Shots That Killed Driver Came From Inside Vehicle
The gunshots that killed an 18-year-old Baldwin Park motorist earlier this week on the San Bernardino Freeway were fired from within the vehicle, and publicity surrounding the slaying has produced several leads, sheriff’s detectives said Thursday.
Robert Cabrera, 18, of Baldwin Park, was killed in his Volkswagen Jetta early Tuesday and his body was discovered about 5:30 a.m. by a tow truck driver.
“The gunfire came from within the vehicle. We are not sure if the person was in the passenger seat or elsewhere,” said Sheriff’s Det. Sgt. Doyle Riggs. “The weapon was a handgun.”
An autopsy will be conducted today on Cabrera. Investigators said they received several calls with information about the slaying after coverage of the incident.
Sheriff’s investigators are working with Baldwin Park police.
